Rev. Amy Mercer
| Amy is an ordained deacon in full connection. She answered her call to full time ministry, after being an oilfield geologist for 10 years. She served on staff at two mission minded churches in Louisiana. Before moving to the desert and WHUMC in July 2009, she was the Director of Operations for the LA United Methodist Disaster Recovery Ministry (2006-2009) dealing with the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike. Amy is the proud mother of two (three counting Noel’s wife Jesi) LSU Tigers – Noel (an architect) and Katie who is in her last year of college.
“I have two mission fields – one that is sitting in the pews of our churches – unaware of the joys of discipleship and the needs of the community. The other mission field is in the community, the world itself.” She believes that concern and compassion for others is learned and taught by example, and that Christ alone supplies the love and strength to serve. And she believes that it is the church’s responsibility to form and to grow disciples and provide opportunities for them to serve.
