Weekend Update 9-3-10

Filed under: Weekly Update — admin @ 9:57 am

You have heard it said I am sure. “A journey begins with a single step”. I trust that each of you have already begun your journey with Christ. And if I haven’t told you this personally yet, I will now. There is a place for you on The Pathway. If you are not sure where you fit into the opportunities listed in the Belonging, Believing, Becoming brochure – ask me, ask Mark, ask anyone on staff. We started up our Wednesday night dinners and Along the Road with Christ classes. There is still room for you on the path.  Mark will be leading the Beginning the Path class that starts Sunday Sept. 12 at 9:30 a.m. There is room for you if you want to learn more about belonging to Jesus and WHUMC.

I just got back a few days ago, from Ginghamsburg UMC in Tipp City Ohio.  It is an exciting church, a missional church that has been known for making disciples. To be able to attend seminars there was something I have wanted to do for years. They make it look easy. Every member of their staff and every member of their church is encouraged to truly believe Jesus when he spoke the words “Follow me” and to hear them as if he were speaking it to them today.

The Pathway is our attempt to encourage you to do likewise. Consider the opportunities we are giving you to learn with others what a life of faithful discipleship looks like. Disciples don’t stand still.
I want to challenge you – to take one step closer to Jesus every day. Just one step. Who knows where He will lead you.
Hope to see you Sunday as we consider Jeremiah’s visit to the potter’s house and the truth he saw and heard there.

Amy

Weekend Update

Filed under: Weekly Update — admin @ 12:31 pm

Being a Christian is like finding yourself on a new road. Sunday becomes Sabbath, church has become worship, communion has become covenant, and people have become community. Look over The Pathway brochure that will be in your bulletin on Sunday. Where do you see yourself stepping out in faith and growing?  This road – this intentional pathway of discipleship we are undertaking here at Western Hills is for everyone to walk on. It’s a demanding road – you cannot stand still on it, you can rest for a season, but you cannot stand still.  It is a “way,” it is a journey, and you will be walking alongside others.

My greatest joy in ministry has been realized as I have seen others, respond to the call of God in their lives; as parents, as leaders, as advocates for those with special needs and to ministries of all kinds. My greatest grief in ministry is when I see a lukewarm faith in an individual -when church becomes only a place to see friends and to be seen – when attendance in worship becomes an occasion when there is nothing better to do.

Our responsibility as a church and denomination – our mission – is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.  Join us on The Pathway to Discipleship. Don’t stand still.  Stretch your soul, your mind and your faith. We will be walking with you.

In His Service,
Amy
